OnePlus releases Face Unlock for OnePlus 5, Oreo 8.0 for 5T both in Beta

The Face Unlock in currently available in the third beta for the OP5 and is expected to contain some bugs.

OnePlus clearly knows a thing or two about staying in the limelight. Since November of last year, they have been busy with product launches, particularly with the OnePlus 5T and its special ‘Star Wars’ edition shortly in December. However, we have had heard OnePlus founders talking about showing some love to the original OnePlus 5 with some of OnePlus 5T’s features. One of them has been the Face unlock feature, which we found to be very fast and mostly accurate in our review. Now, in the latest beta update for the OnePlus 5, Face Unlock has finally been made available.

The Face Unlock comes as a massive convenience when you are on the move — all you need to do is simply glance at the phone and it will unlock on its own. We found it to be fairly accurate and reasonably fast in well-lit conditions. Apart from the Face Unlock, the new beta also fixes some bugs related to 5G Wi-Fi issues. The new update also brings in the December 2017 security patch to the OnePlus 5.

As for the OnePlus 5T, the company has finally rolled out a beta build of Oxygen OS based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The latest beta brings optimised app shortcut styles, combined icon options with app shortcuts, and allowing for photo uploads to the ‘Shot on OnePlus’ service. The 5T will also benefit from standard Oreo newbies such as PiP mode, smart text selection and new autofill settings. App launches should also be a tad faster than the current stable build of Android Nougat 7.1.1. Note that this is first beta build, which means that there will be a lot of bugs and issues.
