As normal people get over hangovers and find the will to get back to work in the new year, gamers are waiting eagerly for an exciting lineup of games to pickup in 2018. Here are the top five games to watch in 2018.

Spider-Man — PlayStation 4

Even though he is one of the most popular super heroes in the world, video games starring Spider-Man have been miss-managed for over a decade. From movie tie in games to low budget efforts, we have yet to see anything come close to DC’s Arkham series. But the footage shown of the upcoming game by Insomniac looks extremely promising. While it doesn’t aim to add anything revolutionary to the genre, we are excited to see how it turns out.

God of War — PlayStation 4

After the release of Ascension in 2013, God of War had suffered from massive series fatigue. But Sony Santa Monica was smart enough to realise this, and completely changed the direction of the newest game in the franchise. Beside from switching mythologies, it is a complete reboot of gameplay and game design. Kratos now has a son, who he must protect and tutor on their journey. We have yet to see a big set-piece moment that had previously defined the series, but of all the changes to combat, Kratos’ character and the mysteries of the new world have us more excited for a God of War game than ever before.

Sea of Thieves — Xbox One, Windows 10 PC

Have you ever wanted to live out your pirate fantasies? Go on epic adventures sailing across the seas with your friends? Well, Sea of Thieves might just be the game for you. The game makes you a virtual pirate in a constant shared world with other players. You can either team up with them and go hunt for lost treasure or do what pirates do best, loot other ships that have done all the hard work. One of the things Sea of Thieves has really been praised for are its water mechanics. While the cartoony vibe of the game might put some gamers off, don’t be fooled. This is definitely a game you’re going to be spending a lot of time on as you look to build your own pirate legend.

Dragon Ball FighterZ — Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows PC

Announced at E3 2016, Dragon Ball FighterZ was arguably the most exciting game shown at the whole event. Probably the first thing that caught our attention was the art style, as the game looks exactly like the anime series. The developer Arc System Works is known for its complex battle system and flashy combat, which is a perfect fit for the source material. Dragon Ball FighterZ has already created a buzz around it.

Red Dead Redemption 2 — Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows PC

After pirates now its time to play as cowboys in Red Dead Redemption 2. The game is set in Wild West and is considered an old school version of GTA in some sorts with what is expected to a massive open world, lots of hunting and of course train heists. Unlike the previous game, this time we’re on the other side of the law, playing Arthur Morgan; a member of the Dutch Van Der Linde Gang. The open world and story are what had players hooked to the original, however with the success of GTA Online, the focus seems to have shifted towards an online mode for RDR2.
