TIRUPATI: Chittoor district police has launched a face tagger app to identify criminals. The app was launched by Anantapuram range DIG Prabhakar Rao and SP S.V. Rajashekar Babu in the District Police Training Centre on Thursday. The app will hold data of criminals from Andhra Pradesh as well as those from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Police has to take a photo of the person and check it in the app. The app shows details of the person and if there is any earlier crime record.
Speaking to media persons, DIG Prabhakar Rao said, "The app will be useful for Chittoor as it has borders with both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. We can easily find the interstate criminals too. Especially while catching the red sander smugglers, the Department is confused sometimes by catching the same person many times. This app would also help in preventing of Red Sander smuggling. It's a pilot project in Chittoor.”
