Talento: 5 city teens develop app to find the right tutor

They realised that there is an increase in demand to localise learning and help learners access right tutors and coaching centres.

Bengaluru: Finding a right tutor or a coaching centre to address the specific needs of a student or a parent is now possible with Talento, the latest tech innovation by city students. Developed by a team of five school students from MS Ramaiah North City Layout, a gated community, the mobile app claims to act as a bridge for the student community and create a knowledge base readily available for students.

As five friends Tanisha Tambi, Milan Fine (CMR National Public School), Anika Mohapatra (Vidyashilp Academy), Paavana Pawar (Poorna Learning Centre) and Adithya Udupa (Deeksha School) got together during their summer break earlier this year. They realised that there is an increase in demand to localise learning and help learners access right tutors and coaching centres. “Creating a platform to facilitate this led to Talento,” the team told Deccan Chronicle.

They launched the app on April 29. “We worked with the basics of Javascript and XML. Our mentors – technical architect Vinod Chitrali, techies Nidhi and Nithin – joined us post work, giving us the right exposure,” the team said. They also participated in two expert talks that helped them with their app development.

Their parents said that the project gave the teenagers a hands-on experience in problem solving, researching, generating the right content and knowing how design and backend work is done in the industry. “The children’s enthusiasm and creativity in solving small and addressable real-world problems was totally commendable, though they had to overcome a few practical hurdles of getting together,” said Ashwini Tambi, Tanisha’s father.

The application which has recorded some 70 downloads will be launched on Google Playstore by this yearend. “We are working on developing an upgraded version of the application by going through the feedback. Juggling school time and a schedule for our start-up, we are hopeful of developing this to better stages,” the teen-team said.
