Twitter is killing default 'egg' profile photo
Twitter has confirmed to kill the default ‘egg’ profile photo to a new genderless image of a person, something that would encourage people to upload their profile photos for more personal expression.
“The new default image feels more like an empty state or placeholder, and we hope it encourages people to upload images that express themselves,” Twitter wrote in a blog post.
Twitter says the previous ‘egg’ default photo was a playful way to reference how egg hatch into birds that send all the Tweets on Twitter.
The reason why Twitter decided to change the default photo from an egg to a genderless image is because it acknowledged the ‘egg’ become associated with negative and harassing behaviour on the social network, which the didn’t find fair to people who are still new to Twitter and haven’t personalised their profile photo.
Additionally, Twitter has stopped counting @username in replies, giving more room to users in replies easing out the 140-character limit.
