Apple unveiled its budget smartphone, the “iPhone 16e,” on Wednesday.
The iPhone 16e begins at Rs 59,900 in India. Notably, this time, the company has eliminated the 64GB storage option, making the budget iPhone start with 128GB of storage.
The iPhone 16e shares the same chipset as the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, the A18, which provides an almost flagship-level experience with its C1 in-house modem and Apple Intelligence. It also offers the best battery life in an 6.1-inch iPhone.
In terms of performance, it’s comparable to the iPhone 16, but one aspect where the iPhone 16e might lag behind is its camera.
It might come as a surprise to consumers that the iPhone 16e will have only one camera in 2025, and they’ll miss the ultra-wide-angle lens. However, let’s take a closer look at the iPhone 16e camera.
The newly launched iPhone 16e features a single 48MP rear camera and Apple claims that “it is like having two cameras in one.” iPhone 16e features a 2-in-1 “Fusion Camera”, which allows 2x optical-quality telephoto image, offering experience of two cameras in one. This single-camera setup is particularly suitable for users who do not rely on ultra-wide lens and not heavy on photography.
It offers the True Tone flash, Photonic Engine, Deep Fusion, and Smart HDR 5 options. Surely, people might miss ultra-wide lens as they won’t be able to take wide-angle shots and macro images.
Missing features
The iPhone 16e lacks a telephoto lens and doesn’t offer spatial image and video capture options since it has only one lens. It also doesn’t support portrait mode with Focus Control or the latest-generation Photographic Styles.
The Photographic Styles are available only on the iPhone 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max, while the iPhone 16e has older style filters.
Regarding the front camera, both the iPhone 16 and 16e have the same feature set, but they lack Cinematic mode, Photographic Styles, and Depth Control for Portrait shots.
The iPhone 16e also lack some video features, including Cinematic mode and Action mode but it has the new Audio Mix feature.
