Google is introducing Battery Health Assistance feature on Pixel devices this year, starting with the newly launched Pixel 9a.
The Pixel 9a, set to launch in India on April 16, will be the first device to feature Battery Health Assistance, which is a software feature. According to a footnote on the Google Store, “Pixel software will manage battery performance to help maintain battery health as the battery ages.”
In a support article, Google explains that the software will adjust the battery’s maximum voltage in stages, beginning at 200 charge cycles and continuing gradually until 1,000 charge cycles, helping to stabilize battery performance and aging.
Additionally, Battery Health Assistance will optimize the phone’s charging speed based on adjusted capacity.
Users may notice “small decreases in your battery’s runtime as your battery ages” and “slight change in battery charging performance.” On the Pixel 9, Battery Health Assistance settings will not be customizable by users.
Google plans to roll out the Battery Health Assistance feature to a selection of Pixel devices.
“Battery Health Assistance is a software feature that will roll out to a selection of Pixel devices later this year, designed to extend their usability,” Google told 9To5Google.
