Google Gemini Launches Guided Learning to Rival ChatGPT Study Mode

Guided Learning aims to build a deep understanding instead of just getting answers.
Google has announced the launch of a new feature called Guided Learning in Gemini, designed to "act as a personal learning companion.”
Guided Learning aims to build a deep understanding instead of just getting answers. “Guided Learning breaks down problems step-by-step and adapts explanations to your needs — all to help you build knowledge and skills,” Maureen Heymans, Google’s VP of Learning and Sustainability, wrote in a blog post.

This launch comes days after OpenAI introduced Study Mode for ChatGPT, which is also designed to “work through problems step by step instead of just getting an answer.”
Guided Learning provides images, diagrams, videos and interactive quizzes to help users build and test their knowledge, rather just giving the answer.
“Whether you’re preparing for an exam about enzymes, starting the first draft of a paper on the importance of bee populations in supporting our food systems, or exploring your passion for photography, Guided Learning is a collaborative thinking partner that helps you get it — each step of the way,” Maureen wrote.
In addition, Google also announced that it is offering students in the United States, Japan, Indonesia, Korea and Brazil a free one-year subscription to Google’s AI Pro plan for their studies.
The free Google AI Pro subscription includes 2 TB of storage and expanded access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Research, NotebookLM, Veo 3 and Jules - Google’s newly launched AI coding agent
