Samsung Bluetooth VR headset launching soon

The next generation Samsung VR headset HMD Odessey+ has made an appearance on a Bluetooth certification website.

After the success of the previous virtual reality headset, Samsung is preparing to unveil a new VR headset that will be Bluetooth-enabled. The upcoming models have made an appearance on a Bluetooth certification website with similar numbers — XE800ZBA and XQ800ZBA. Apart from this, the listing doesn’t reveal much but it does indicate that Samsung will be launching two versions of the headset.

Previously, XE800ZBA made an appearance on FCC and some of the specifications had been detailed. A report by Variety states that the new headset goes by the model name HMD Odessey+ and it is largely based off the original Odessey headset that was launched last October. This headset is believed to run on the Microsoft Mixed Reality software and will make use of inside-out positional tracking “which allows users to lean into VR experiences without the need for any external tracking hardware.”

The Odessey+ will include dual 3.5-inch screens that feature a resolution of 1440 x 1600 pixels per eye. It will also have integrated audio from AKG. The sensor found here will include a WMR camera, IPD sensor, G-sensor, gyroscope and proximity sensor. Connectivity options are said to be HDMI 2.0, USB 3.0 and Bluetooth. The Odessey+ will also feature a dual array mic.

The report adds that the specifications have also mentioned a wider eye box and a redesigned nose part that will aim to reduce fogging of the lenses.

Since it has already popped up on the FCC and at a Bluetooth certification website, the launch should be imminent and we expect it to be unveiled at IFA Berlin 2018.
