HTC won't be making smartwatches any soon: confirmed
HTC alleged Halfbeak smartwatch has been making rounds in the rumour mill for quite some time now and the company was expected to showcase the smart wearable some time soon. Well now it seems that we won’t be seeing the watch anytime soon.
In fact, the device may continue to remain just as a prototype since the company is determined to stay on top of its smartphone game by using all its resources to deliver new smartphones to its fans.
HTC's president Chialin Chang said in an interview with Tbreak “I can tell you that we’re not going to have an Android watch. I don’t thing we’ve nailed it with [the experience of] watches. Android watch is one thing but even Apple as a big brand is declining [in watches.] We are not going to have a watch in the short term.”
Talking of smartphones, the Taiwanese smartphone maker recently launched its flagship, the U Ultra alongside the mid-range U Play. However, the devices were criticised for being over priced while opposing to offer specs that can compete with the recent flagships.
Perhaps, it’s a good thing that HTC won’t launch an overpriced smartwatch, which would probably fail to impress the masses and couldn’t meet company’s sales expectation.
That being said, the HTC Halfbeak shouldn’t be expected to be present next month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) exhibition. However we do believe HTC has something in its bag for its fans.
