This ring turns your finger into a phone

A new start-up is using biotechnology to eradicate the phone and using a ring to transfer sound vibrations.

There have been times when you must have felt lazy to use your smartphone – one of the most mobile ways to gain access to the world. And there is a point in your thought – you have to hold a heavy metal and glass slab for longer periods of time while talking to someone. What if we could talk to someone by only using our fingers? It seems that now you can.

Origami Labs, a tech startup, has unveiled a smart ring that can do the job of your phone, i.e. it will let you talk through your finger. Called the ORII, it utilises ‘bone conduction’ to send sound waves through the bones of your finger to your ear. In short, it utilises your body as a medium to transfer sound vibrations to your ear.

The ORII ring uses Bluetooth to pick up the audio from your smartphone and transfers it to your ear by using your bones. Apart from calls, the ring can also be used to interact with your smartphone’s AI-based voice assistants. It can also display notifications like a smartwatch through its LED light.

The ring is waterproof and stays on standby for 45 hours. Although the device is currently under development, you can pre-order the ring for $119 from kickstarter.com and can get it delivered by February 2018.
