Ok Google' is bidding goodbye to Chromebooks
Chromebooks have been a good alternative to the Windows laptops. They are generally lightweight and use a version of the OS more akin to the one on an Android phone. They come with the convenience of Android apps and are great for those who prefer a portable computer for light typing work and web browsing.
If you use a laptop that runs on Google’s version of the operating system and have been using the robotic but convenient ‘Ok Google’ call sign, then you are in for a shock. The next major update to the Chrome OS will be reportedly getting rid of the ‘Ok Google’ command.
According to reports from Chrome Unboxed, the next Chrome OS update will remove the Google Home feature from the Chromebooks. Instead, rumours suggest that Google will be bringing the Assistant to help improve the experience of it AI assistant. Also, there’s a high chance that Chromebooks could be getting a universal shortcut for triggering the Assistant.
The possible shortcut for the Assistant could be the Search + A key combo. If this rumour turns out to be true, then using Chromebooks could a whole lot easier. The Assistant shortcut could be used to open apps, websites and search for something on Google without going through hundreds for hardware interactions. If Google allows it, then one could also use it to type large documents without using the keyboard.
However, this is still a rumour and we are looking forward to Google for confirming these rumours.
