You will now be able turn your iPhone or iPad into a Macbook

Apple's latest patent reveal possible future design where an iPhone or an iPad could be used as an accessory or component for a Macbook.

Imagine being able to use your smartphone as your laptop. This may appear like something out of the future. However, Apple already appears to be working on making something like this happen.

The Cupertino tech-giant has reportedly filed for a patent that reveals a possible future design wherein an iPhone or an iPad could be used as an accessory or component for a Macbook. The US Patent Application Publication recently approved Apple’s design, which was originally filed back in September, 2016.

“The present application describes various embodiments of systems and methods for providing internal components for portable computing devices having a thin profile. More particularly, the present application describes an electronic accessory device available to extend and expand usefulness of a portable computing device,” the description of the patent read.

In other words, this technology would essentially allow an iPhone or an iPad to fit into a slot on the Macbook. The device would then act as a CPU. The Macbook would therefore change into an iPhone-powered laptop.

"It is anticipated that the accessory device is not a stand-alone computing device but only acts in concert with a host device," the patent says. "The host device can be a portable computing device, such as a smart phone, media player, tablet computer, or other portable computing device."
