Sony working on 'Play Station 4.5' project for 4K gaming
Mumbai: A new PlayStation or an upgraded add-on might be on cards for gaming enthusiasts, as fresh reports suggested that Sony is working on a console project for enhancing in-game graphics and 4K gaming.
According to a report by gaming website Kutaku, the new PlayStation 4.5 (PS 4.5) console/enhancement will facilitate increased graphical ability, along with 4K gaming capabilities.
However, it is not yet confirmed if current PS4 owners will be given an option to upgrade or if they will have to buy an entirely new console.
Developers approached by Sony for the console’s development said that the “PS 4.5” would feature an upgraded GPU for supporting high-end 4K resolutions and enhanced experience on PlayStation VR—which is expected to release sometime between September and November 2016.

Moreover, it is not clear whether “PS 4.5” is the official name or just a nickname that the developers coined internally.
The standard resolution for gaming is currently 1080p and introducing 4K gaming will significantly bump up gaming experience. While the PS4 is capable of showing 4K images and videos, the same cannot be said for the gaming resolution.
Other than enhanced resolution, the developers are also looking forward to “push more effects and tweaks” for enhanced in-game graphics.
Not only Sony, Microsoft is also planning to revamp the popular Xbox. While a certain section of the normal crowd still rate gaming consoles above desktops, all the powerful VR tools and powerful graphics cards and boosters are available on PCs.
This might be a reason why console manufacturers are trying to upgrade ageing consoles and stay in the race. Sony has not yet confirmed the report regarding the new Play Station 4K, pointing out that they can’t comment of rumours.
However, if this product sees the light of the day, it will be a great addition to the company’s arsenal.
