Apple Watch 3 working independently from iPhone 8: report
The upcoming Apple Watch 3, scheduled to launch at an event in September, will be able to work independently from the iPhone, a report by CNBC reads. In other words, the device will be able to make calls independently through an embedded SIM.
The third-generation smart wearable is also expected to arrive with a 4G connection that will allow users to communicate without the need of a smartphone. At the moment, Apple Watch simply connects to user’s smartphone via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Users are required to pair their Apple smartwatches with an iPhone in order to make and receive calls and messages. “It will cater to the niche market of health and fitness users who don’t want to carry their iPhone when they go for a run,” Counterpoint Research analyst Neil Shah told CNBC.
This isn’t the first time that a company is considering turning smartwatches into devices that can run independently. For instance, Huawei recently added 4G connectivity options to its Watch 2 series, followed by Samsung and LG in Gear S3 and Watch Sport LTE respectively.
