Samsung's S8 may dominate the iPhone launch next year

A new rumour suggests that Samsung is set to maintain its lead next year at least in one key area.

Apple’s latest iPhone 7 flagship launch has set a new profit record. According to Strategy Analytics’ new research, Apple dominates the smartphone market by capturing 91 per cent profits worldwide. All other smartphone brands plummets below 2.5 per cent market. The Cupertino giant outclasses all other competition in many ways – design, originality, user experience and its third-party app support. Despite the given dominance, the market still holds some areas where Apple’s rivals – Samsung in particular have the edge.

A new rumour suggests that Samsung is set to maintain its lead next year at least in one key area. The company will likely be the biggest winner when it comes to supplying AMOLED screens. Apple won’t be the first company to introduce a smartphone design that features a curved or dual-curved display for that matter. Samsung’s next year S8 launch is said to sport a curved display too. Moreover, the company plans on widening its lead in this space next year.

Recent reports have claimed that Samsung is working on display improvements. South Korean tech news website ET News published a report this week that stated that Samsung will be making use of next-generation panels that feature not just improved display capabilities but also Y-OCTA technology. This technology allows Samsung to embed touch sensors directly into the display panel. The change results in a thinner panel with the same or an even better touch sensitivity.

Since Samsung usually unveils its smartphones in the first quarter of each year and Apple usually introduces their new flagship in the latter part of the year, it is safe to assume that whatever Apple offers may already be there in Samsung’s offerings. However, these are only speculations and we will only know for sure if this turns out to be true in the coming year.
