Replace your headset with your finger to make calls
Technology is known to make your life more convenient and that is exactly what Innomdle Lab’s latest project aims to do. A group of researchers and engineers are currently working on a concept known as Sgnl, which is a smart strap that allows users to answer phone calls using their fingertip.
How it works?
Users can replace their existing watch strap with Sgnl, which is designed to fit all sorts of classic as well as smart watches. Sgnl essentially receives voice signals from the users’ phone through Bluetooth. When a voice signal is received, Sgnl automatically generates vibration through its Body Conduction Unit (BCU) which then transmits the vibration from the users’ hand to their fingertip. The transmitted vibration then echoes to create an amplified sound within the closed space of users’ ear.
The Body Conduction Unit (BCU) present in Sgnl makes use of two types of technologies; first, an actuator unit that generates a body-conductible vibration through low power consumption. Second, an audio algorithm that selectively amplifies voice signals with proper wavelength modulation.
Sgnl also has its own app that helps users manage their daily tasks better through various features including Call Reminder, Activity Tracking and Smart Alert among others.
This smart strap is compatible with both, iOS 8+ as well as Android 4.4+. The strap is 24mm wide and is IP56 water resistant. Its battery life lasts for over four hours of talk time and seven days on standby. Users can charge the smart strap using microUSB.
It is available in colour variants of black, white and blue at early bird prices that range between $129 to $139. The campaign, which is started by Innomdle Lab on Kickstarter, has already raised over $375,000 from more than 2,000+ backers.
