Mumbai: Chip manufacturer Qualcomm has officially announced the Snapdragon 821 smartphone chipset, which is an update to its current flagship 820 processor.
According to reports, the new chip is touted by the company to have a faster clock speed which will linger between 2 to 2.4 GHz; it, however, sustains the 820’s Kyro quad-core configuration.
The company also pointed out the chip will be more efficient than its predecessor, with smoother application performance and increased power saving capability.
Surprisingly, the company explained that the new chip isn’t a direct replacement but an alternate to the Snapdragon 820.
However, it will give an extra edge to smartphone manufacturers who want to derive highest levels of output for processor-heavy applications such as VR.
The company is expected to start shipping these new chips later this year.
