OnePlus smartwatch in the making, but not coming
The smartphone industry has been growing quickly, and the brands had never limited their business to smartphones only. In fact, they are expanding the market by bringing in smartwatches and wearables compatible with smartphones.
Many brands like Apple, Samsung, Motorola have already entered the wearable market. Besides it, there are rumours that Xiaomi may also join the wearable market with a smartwatch that is claimed to be launched in a few months.
Having said this, a new report states that OnePlus could be another new comer in the wearable market with a smartwatch. However, a report by The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that OnePlus did design a smartwatch, but scrapped it last year. There is no actual information about the reason for scrapping the smartwatch, though the company says that they were concentrating on the smartphone instead.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau stated that the company had completed the design of the smartwatch last year but decided to scrap it and focus on flagship smartphones instead.
Pete Lau pointed out that the company is still a pupil in the smartphone market and needs to focus on the market segment, rather than to tap on new grounds such as wearable market.
