Xiaomi launches Mi VR Play in India

Xiaomi announced its first foray into virtual reality (VR) with Mi VR Play.

Mi VR Play is an entry-level product that seeks to bring the VR experience to a much wider audience. It has already caused a stir in China as Xiaomi received 1 million registrations within eight hours of the announcement of the product on 1 August in China.

Wrapped in lightweight, durable Lycra for long-lasting comfort, it is available in a selection of bold prints and colours. The unique two-way zipper helps ensure compatibility, providing a secure grip on smartphones. The dual openings on the front allow the slight positioning adjustments and ventilation.

Launched together with Mi VR Play is the Mi VR app, an open platform incorporating an extensive library of content from partners. Right now, the app comes with content from partners including Conde Nast Traveler, YouKu and Korea's Dooribun. As more partners are brought onboard Mi VR app, introducing even more panoramic, 2D and 3D content, it is expected to drive VR content in China to a whole new level.

Details about the pricing and availability of Mi VR Play beyond the beta testing program will be announced at a later date.
