Future of dating: Wearable that tells you if someone is checking you out

The wearable uses cameras to find people who are intimately staring at the wearer.

Designers from Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) have developed a new, ‘tentacle-like’ wearable that notifies users when someone is checking them out. The wearable is called ‘Ripple,’ and it essentially uses cameras and computer vision to sense the look of others around the user and determine who is interested.

The designers reportedly hope to encourage people to interact in real life. “Ripple is a wearable extension of your body for the future of dating,” the Ripple team stated. “When it finds someone, it gives you sensorial feedback, reflecting the excitement you feel when meeting someone special. If the attraction is mutual then its tentacles will move in reaction to their gaze, amplifying the language of seduction between two people.”

The wearable through the use of computer vision scans the surrounding area with its two cameras and identifies people who maybe interested. If the wearable found anyone interested, it sends an alert to improve the wearer’s posture to help them seem confident. The user will also experience a ripple up their back to let them know that someone is checking them out.

The team has currently developed two prototypes using 3D printer parts and tentacles made from a laser-cut printer acetate film.
