No plans to release new smartwatch in future: Moto
Lenono Moto is planning not to launch any new smartwatch or a Moto 360 successor next year, amid low wearable market sales.
Lenovo had earlier hinted its plans that it may not release a new smartwatch in 2016, and now the company confirms that it will not put out a new smartwatch for the launch of Google Android Wear 2.0 slated next year, either.
In a statement to The Verge, Shakil Barkat, head of global product development at Motorola, said the company doesn’t “see enough pull in the market to put [a new smartwatch] out at this time,” and that “wearables do not have broad enough appeal for us to continue to build on it year after year.” Moto also indicated that "smartwatches and other wearable devices will not be in Moto’s annual device roadmap.”
The worldwide smartwatch market witnessed a slow growth in the Q3 with a 51.6 per cent decrease in the shipments. According to IDC, Lenovo suffered that largest year-over-year decline in the Q3.
