Billions of People Will Have Personal AI Agents in Next 5 Years: Zuckerberg

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes billions of people will have their own personal AI agents within the next five years.

"I think that it's extremely unlikely if you look out five years from now, for example — whatever period of time you want — that you don't have billions of people with a personal agent that understands your goals and that is just working on your behalf 24/7 to achieve your goals in whatever the domain is that you care about," Zuckerberg said during Meta's quarterly earnings call on Wednesday.

Zuckerberg believes that personal AI agents will become "the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines in the months and years ahead."

"As we move toward a future where we're all interacting with multiple agents, I think that WhatsApp and our other messaging surfaces are going to become increasingly important," he said.

Meta is not alone in the AI race. Like its rivals, including Google, the company has been investing billions of dollars in artificial intelligence.

Meta's Reality Labs division, which develops the company's augmented and virtual reality glasses, reported an operating loss of about $4.6 billion during the quarter. The company also reported free cash flow of $784 million, down from $8.55 billion in the same quarter last year, a decline of about 91% year over year.

Earlier this week, Meta announced a joint venture with BlackRock to build data centre campus in El Paso, Texas, with total costs of about $14 billion.

Meta is expected to continue investing heavily to strengthen its position in the AI race. In May 2026, the company laid off around 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 employees.
