Tech giant Apple is reportedly planning to launch the iPhone 18 series in two phases, according to tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo stated that Apple is planning to launch the iPhone 18 Pro models and a new foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026. The standard iPhone 18, along with the iPhone 18e, will reportedly debut in the first half of 2027.
Kuo attributes Apple’s shift to a bi-annual release schedule to two key factors: the “marketing gap” created by other smartphone makers who typically release devices in the first half of the year, and the risk of “diluting marketing efforts.” He noted, “Due to intense competition, Apple needs to offer more iPhone models. Launching them all in the second half risks diluting marketing efforts.”
This claim is supported by a report from The Information, which revealed that Apple plans to release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Air, and a new foldable iPhone in fall 2026, while the standard models are expected to arrive in spring 2027.
This launch strategy is also aimed at helping Apple manage its manufacturing resources more efficiently, especially as the company expands its lineup from five to six devices with the addition of the foldable model.
Meanwhile, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series later this year, including a rumored ultra-thin model called the “iPhone 17 Air.” According to The Information, Apple also plans to release a successor to the 17 Air in the following year.
