‘Working With A Creative Team Made Me Tap Into My Own Creativity’
Prerna Arora speaks out on her directorial dreams, her favourite star, and the need to boost Nari Shakti

Producer Prerna Arora, who turned creative designer for the song ‘Dhana Pisaachi’ in her upcoming film Jatadhara, talks about the career development, and a few other topics.
Excerpts:
How did you take on the role of creative designer for Dhana Pisaachi? It’s shot in striking shades of red and orange — are you influenced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali?
When you work with a creative team, you are bound to tap into your own creativity.
Which filmmaker is not influenced by him? I am a huge fan of Bhansali Sir. He got the best out of Sonakshi Sinha in Heeramandi. I would like to believe that our Jatadhara will also bring out the best in her. She has so much untapped talent.
Are you inching towards direction?
Of course I want to direct a film. I’ve produced films like PadMan, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Rustom and now Jatadhara. Doing so, I got to observe some of our finest actors and directors at work.
If and when you do turn director, who is the one actor you would like to direct?
I’ve been a huge fan of Ashaji all my life. I’ve seen all her films over and over again, especially Caravan, Mere Sanam, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon, Jab Pyar Kissise Hota Hai, Pyar Ka Mausam.. I love every film of hers and when I direct a film, I’d like Ashaji to be in it.
Not to undermine the other screen greats, but to me she is the ultimate dancer-actress. I look at her as my role model.
On Dussehra, what is your message for the women of our country?
Nari Shakti, Zindabad! Every woman should recognize her inner strength and tap into it. It is a shame that in this day and age, when women are conquering the world, we still have gang rapes and dowry deaths. Every parent should teach their daughters the art of self-defence. Karate, pepper spray and an alert law enforcement should help.
