‘Vayuputra’ Shrouded in Uncertainty
Indications are that the film has been paused due to financial constraints
Close on the heels of the success of Mahavatar Narasimha, producer Naga Vamsi had announced Vayuputra, an ambitious animated film on Lord Hanuman to be directed by Chandoo Mondeti. However, the latest buzz is that the project has been put on hold.
The film reportedly has an exciting script and pre-production work had already begun. The makers were planning to mount the project on a grand scale, incorporating advanced technologies like animatronics and motion capture to bring the story to life on par with global standards.
But the financial side seems to have become a major hurdle. Sources indicate that the technology alone would cost around 32 crore. When additional expenses are included, the total budget could exceed ?45 crore.
While Sithara Entertainments enjoys a strong track record with Netflix—with several of their films performing well digitally—the OTT giant was reportedly willing to offer only 15–20 crore for the project. This created a significant gap, leaving the makers heavily dependent on theatrical revenue.
Given the current uncertain theatrical market conditions, Naga Vamsi is said to be cautious about taking such a big financial risk. As a result, the project seems to have been paused for now.
There is no official confirmation of this yet from either Naga Vamsi or Chandoo Mondeti.
