‘Varanasi’ Makes History in Antarctica

SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film has entered the record books with a rare global filmmaking feat

The upcoming film, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, has achieved a rare global feat by planning and executing key sequences in Antarctica - one of the most inhospitable and tightly regulated filming locations in the world.

The project is progressing at a brisk pace and is slated for a grand theatrical release on April 7, 2027.

Battling extreme cold, unpredictable weather conditions, and strict environmental regulations, Rajamouli reportedly designed crucial portions of the film against Antarctica's stark white landscapes. With this, Varanasi joins an elite global list, becoming only the fifth film worldwide to be shot on the continent.

According to sources, the film's team is expected to travel to Antarctica in the last week of February, marking a landmark moment for Indian cinema.
