‘Tomorrow, You Too Will Be the Chief Minister’
Shoba Chandrasekhar sings the iconic Sivakasi track as trends favour TVK

Celebrations broke out at the residence of veteran filmmaker S. A. Chandra-sekhar, father of actor-politician Vijay, as soon as trends indicated Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was leading in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Family members and relatives were seen cheering, dancing... A viral clip captured the mood: whistles, applause and unrestrained celebration as TVK surged ahead in over 100 seats. At the heart of the celebration was Vijay’s mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, a singer, who broke into a familiar tune — Kodambakkam Area Ottu Kettu Variya — from Vijay’s film Sivakasi. She sang along with those gathered, her voice carrying a line that resonated deeply in the moment: “If the poor and downtrodden decide, tomorrow you too will be the Chief Minister.” The lyric, once part of a film track, now felt uncannily real as her son’s political fortunes rose.
