Owaisi’s Daughter Tops MBBS Batch After Marriage

Forward-thinking leader

Whatever one may say about his politics, but Assaduddin Owaisi is surely a forward-thinking father. He got his daughters married early but never let that come in the way of their education. His daughter, Maheen Owaisi, married into the family that runs Shahdan Institute of Medical Sciences just completed her MBBS. Topping her batch, she has become the latest poster child for the idea that wedding bells need not silence career goals. Owaisi’s older daughter too, Qudsia, married into the Alam Khan family, is a medical graduate as well.

Brother knows the balance sheet

In the film industry, one is told profits are almost always fudged — nobody really knows whether Peddi, or other big-budget films for that matter, really make hundreds of crores as claimed. But Sumanth Yarlagadda had a pleasant surprise to share. He revealed that his sister, producer Supriya Yarlagadda, actually made money from her latest venture, Dacoit. And this wasn't just brotherly encouragement. Sumanth claimed he had personally ‘gone through the books’ before certifying the project as profitable.

Beware of Nepali house-helps

Gone are the days where Nepali house-help were a very trusted lot. Now, they are part of bigger gangs that are operating all over the country. And they are targeting affluent homes.

First it was international arbitrator Murali Mohan Narsipuram and his wife in Kowkoor. Next an elderly family at Hill Ridge Villas in Gachibowli had allegedly fallen victim to a Nepali gang. Next it was a businessman Suresh Reddy who lost Rs 1.5 crore worth valuables. By the way this is another Suresh Reddy and not the former Speaker Suresh Reddy as many believed.

The good news? In both Kowkoor and Gachibowli cases, the police moved fast and recovered the stolen property. The bad news? Criminals seem to be getting smarter. Hence, be very careful.

A passion very few have

The Telangana Government is seriously looking at giving Telangana texitles a boost. They can consider appointing Anju Poddar to head the Textile board because not only is she knowledgeable, she is so passionate about art, heritage etc that her personal collection of sarees speaks volumes of her love for textiles. She has brought out a book, My Saris, Their Makers, Our Stories, that celebrates not just sarees but the artisans behind them too. After all, every heirloom drape comes with a hidden label: Made with patience, pride and generations of skill, which not many know of.

At her book launch, it was nice to see most of the ladies, close friends of Anju, wear handloom sarees, perfectly in tune with the theme of her book that celebrates India’s rich textile heritage.

Who What When Where Why

Who was spotted at Donald Trump Jr’s wedding? Manthena Raju, who is his close buddy and neighbour in Florida. Another Indian too was seen at one of the party having a blast, surrounded by all the pretty women present there.

What are people saying about Surender Kaluja, whose businesses include solar energy and the likes? He’s one of those silent, low-profile billionaires in our city who nobody knows about. That’s the way to be, wealth whispers.

When you hear Peddi director Buchi Babu speaks, he sounds so unassuming, but obviously looks are deceptive. Given his background, and the film he directed, shows that the man is truly very talented.

Where can you get to meeting new people, forming a nice group and learning a nice game? Join Madam Mahjong, she has classes for all levels to learn the game and the best part is you make new friends.

Why are most experts saying do not buy diamonds anymore? Apparently, the value has crashed by over 50 percent even though your local jeweller will not agree, but that’s the truth. If you have money, buy gold or emeralds of rubies, not diamonds.
