Talk of the Town
HCA president Jagan Mohan Rao and three of the most senior office-bearers were nabbed on Thursday by the CID.

Sad state of affairs
The HCA president Jagan Mohan Rao and three of the most senior office-bearers were nabbed on Thursday by the CID. The BCCI and the IPL Governing Council, Sunrisers Hyderabad, threw some serious shade at the HCA, accusing them of playing a game of threats just to snag more free passes during the IPL season.
One blamed Md Azharuddin earlier of indulging in corrupt practices at the HCA but the next set of bosses have proved to be worse! Rumour is even Vidyut Jaisimha, who was a coach earlier, was framed by some people who wanted him out of their way.
Sadly, such corrupt people at the helm of affairs in HCA are affecting chances of young budding talent to make it big in Indian cricket.
Purani Haveli back to glory
Known as the ‘Kotwal House,’ Purani Haveli served as the police headquarters from 1920 to 2002. It used to house the offices of the Hyderabad police commissioner, DCP South Zone, and Special Branch, among others. The colonial-era building witnessed the most turbulent happenings in the old city for decades. But all of that is past. Fast forward to the present, and the old city is now a bustling hub of Hyderabad, where peace prevails. The reopening of Purani Haveli brought smiles to the faces of many IPS officers, who worked from those premises back in the day. CV Anand becomes the first Kotwal to work from the oldest office (Purani Haveli) to the old office (Basheerbagh) and the new office (Banjara Hills) simultaneously.
Anil, the big boss at Greenco, apparently funded the entire revamp.
Nostalgic moment
Talking of Purani Haveli, among the other dignitaries present at the official reopening of the colonial-era building was Asaduddin Owaisi. It sure was a nostalgic moment for our MP. Be it the TDP regime or the Congress, he would regularly be spotted there, either to protest against action on his party workers or simply to sort out matters between the cops and residents of the old city. Many times, he would even pay a visit to the officers for some quick gupshup and chai. In fact, one of the police commissioners who made it a point to regularly visit Purani Haveli was AK Mohanty. The good old Purani Haveli was witness to all of that — something the Owaisis and many IPS officers won’t forget.
High-end pubs on the Eagle’s radar!
Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) has an entrepreneur who let the cat out of the bag about indulging in it at some swanky pubs around town. Some of these pubs are really raising eyebrows for turning a blind eye to drug use by creating secret spots for substance shenanigans. Like cigar rooms, smoking rooms, there’s a corner for snorting too!
People are not just using drugs, they are pedaling too to make a quick buck. And cops are out to bust them.
Blue saffaires bring bad luck
Stay away from them. Jewellers themselves say so, because this stone doesn’t suit everyone and brings ill-luck. The latest to experience this is Mir Firasat Ali Khan from our city who paid a hefty price to buy these stones from a Kashmiri jeweller hoping to flip them for a much higher price but he soon realised what he bought was worthless coloured stones. He lost `2 crores!
Another businessman who bought one, within weeks, his business went into the red... There are many such stories.
Who, What, When, Where, Why
Who was spotted on Emirates flight, first class, returning from the United States? Actor Balakrishna.
What did Sabina Xavier pull off with elan? A surprise party to celebrate husband Xavier Augustin’s first book The Global Indian.
When men start hurling vulgar abuses at a woman, it only shows their frustration at her rise. The woman here is TDP MLA Prashanti Reddy, who is battling character assassination from sick men like N Prasanna Kumar Reddy. There must be a law to punish such men for lose talk against a woman.
Where did Tulsi aka Smriti Irani from ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ get her timeless grace from? As she returns to the screen, the six yards of nostalgia are woven by Gaurang Shah. It’s the poise of yesteryear that’s making a comeback, and the storytelling that lives in every pleat.
Why are socialites in Hyderabad wooing the editor of Vogue, the Indian edition, Rochelle Pinto? Because they want to be featured in the magazine as “happening ladies/couple/etc” in Hyderabad. When the editor was here in Hyderabad few weeks ago, our ladies tried very hard to make an impression.
