Suriya’s Film Hit in Telugu, Flops in Tamil
Vishwanath And Sons grosses Rs 128 cr in 5 days; Telugu market drives success despite Tamil slowdown

Suriya-starrer Vishwanath And Sons is enjoying a highly successful run in Telugu, but strangely, is facing a noticeable slowdown in Tamil Nadu despite being shot entirely in Tamil.
The family drama, which was dubbed in Telugu, was released on August 14.
Telugu audiences have warmly embraced director Venky Atluri’s emotional storytelling and the dubbed iteration has maintained a higher theatre occupancy rate than the Tamil version.
The Telugu theatrical rights were valued at an accessible Rs 20 crore. Given its strong performance, distributors seem set fair to reap profits.
The romantic-drama format of Vishwanath And Sons has not given it a competitive edge against other concurrent releases like Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. However, the movie is a profitable venture overall. Driven heavily by the Telugu market and overseas revenue, it grossed over Rs 128 crore worldwide within the first five days, putting it on track to reach the Rs 175 crore worldwide theatrical target.
