Sunny Deol’s Career on Unprecedented High
As Border 2 eyes the Rs 150-cr mark, the star’s stock has risen exponentially
After Gadar 2, Sunny Deol has another blockbuster to his credit. Border 2 is creating waves at the box office. The war epic has crossed Rs 100 crore and looks set to reach Rs 150 crore before the next weekend. Between Gadar 2 and Border 2, Sunny had another success – Jaat. His fee is raised to Rs 50 crore!
Now, Sunny is teaming up for the first time with actress Jyotika for an action-drama produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhmwani’s Excel Entertainment.
Raj Kumar Santoshi, with whom Sunny has another film – 1947: Lahore – coming up for release, says, “I have worked with him when he was raw and anxious in Ghayal and Ghatak; and I’ve worked with him now in 1947. Sunny’s sincerity is the same.”
Says the Gadar director Anil Sharma, “You have to hand it to Sunny Paaji for showing the world what a true blue star is. No fudged box office figures, no corporate bookings… Gadar 2 and Border 2 are straightforward, legitimate all-time blockbusters.”
Brother-sisters bond
A special screening of Border 2 was hosted in Mumbai on January 25. Sunny’s half-sisters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, also attended the screening, and after watching the film, Esha praised Sunny’s performance. She posted on Insta “We watched the film last night @iamsunnydeol you are the best.” Sunny too posed for a picture with his half-siblings.
