Steve McQueen’s $15,000 Ferrari Could Fetch $20 Mn
Bought new by the Hollywood star in 1967, the rare Ferrari is now heading to auction with a $15 million-$20 million estimate
Steve McQueen’s love of fast cars is about to become a very expensive piece of automotive history. A 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4S NART Spider once owned by the Hollywood star is heading to a New York auction with an estimated price of $15 million to $20 million.
McQueen bought the Ferrari new for around $15,000. Only 10 NART Spiders were built, and his was one of just two originally finished in the distinctive Blu Sera shade. The actor later had it repainted a darker blue and made several personal modifications, including changes to the seats and bumpers.
The car also carries Hollywood history. McQueen was involved in a crash with it shortly after taking delivery, and the Ferrari later became associated with The Thomas Crown Affair, the 1968 film starring McQueen and Faye Dunaway.
The Ferrari will be offered by Gooding Christie’s at Rétromobile New York, at the Javits Center on November 20-21. It will be the car’s first public auction appearance.
