Sai Pallavi’s Loss, Rashmika’s Gain

The much-anticipated M.S. Subbulakshmi biopic has taken a surprise casting turn, with the Animal actress reportedly stepping into the legendary singer’s shoes

Rashmika Mandanna has reportedly been finalised to play legendary Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biographical film.

The role had earlier been linked to Sai Pallavi, who was reportedly the makers’ first choice, while Rukmini Vasanth was also said to have been considered. But after a successful look test, Rashmika has now emerged as the chosen actress.

The pan-India biopic will be backed by Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts, Bunny Vas and Rockline Venkatesh.

The makers are planning an official announcement of the title, cast and crew on September 16, 2026 — M.S. Subbulakshmi’s birth anniversary.

Interestingly, Sai Pallavi was reportedly keen to take on the prestigious role. However, her packed schedule, including commitments to both parts of Ramayana, is said to have made it difficult for the team to secure her dates.
