Riteish As Chatrapati Shivaji Doesn’t Impress Netizens
He lacks the gravitas to pull off a warrior role, they comment
Riteish Deshmukh has been receiving considerable flak for his portrayal of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ever since the trailer of his ambitious historical film Raja Shivaji was released on Monday.
Deshmukh, who has also produced the project, is being criticised for “daring” to play the legendary warrior. He is being compared unfavourably to actor Sharad Kelkar, who played Chatrapati Shivaji in an earlier production. Most trolls feel Deshmukh, who has a background in comedy, lacks the gravitas and stature to play Shivaji Maharaj.
“He doesn’t have the aura & personality to carry the role of a warrior,” tweeted one Netizen. “There is no soul to it. It’s so auraless. Wish he had cast someone better and used better VFX. This looks like an insult,” posted another.
Says trade analyst Amod Mehra, “The film is bound to be compared to Chhavaa, and in comparison, Ritesh is not as effective as Vicky Kaushal.”
