Rani Mukerji’s Mother Passes Away at 75; Family Seeks Privacy
Krishna Mukherjee was a former playback singer and worked in the film industry
Rani Mukerji’s mother, Krishna Mukherjee, passed away on Tuesday following a brief illness.
A former playback singer, Krishna Mukherjee had worked in the film industry and was married to late filmmaker Ram Mukherjee, who co-founded Filmalaya Studios. Ram Mukherjee passed away in 2017.
Rani shared an exceptionally close bond with her mother, describing her as a fearless “Bengal Tigress”, who had a strong influence on her life and personality.
That influence found its way into Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, where Rani drew inspiration from her mother’s personality and Bengali dialect.
Highlight: She lent her voice to many tracks for films such as Haiwan (1977) and Teesri Aankh (1982). She married filmmaker Ram Mukerji in 1972 and welcomed Rani in March 1978.
