Ranbir on TIME 100 List is a Smart Strategy

The actor’s inclusion in Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2026 comes as Indian cinema aggressively courts global attention

Ranbir Kapoor is the only Indian actor to feature on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list this year, joining chef Vikas Khanna and Sundar Pichai as the only Indians on the roster.
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who wrote Kapoor’s citation, described him as an artist of restraint. “In a world where performances are often amplified, Ranbir internalises. He represents an India that is learning to listen to itself,” he noted.
The Time list, curated through nominations, expert inputs and global polling, spotlights changemakers across politics, arts and culture. Kapoor’s presence, however, also aligns with a larger industry shift.
The actor is set to headline Ramayana, a reported `4000-crore spectacle slated for a Diwali release. Its makers, including producer Namit Malhotra and co-producer Yash, have already taken the film to CinemaCon — signalling an early global push.
A similar strategy is visible with S. S. Rajamouli’s ambitious project Varanasi. Though still a year from release, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been consistently plugging it across international platforms.
Industry observers say this is no coincidence. “Hype today is a valuation tool,” says trade analyst Joginder Tuteja. With global releases becoming central to recovery models, big-budget films are targeting over `1000 crore from overseas markets alone.
“International audiences may not be familiar with Indian stars or filmmakers. So sustained, strategic visibility — from editorial features to global events — is crucial,” he adds, pointing to how franchises like Mission: Impossible have long mastered this playbook.
In that context, Kapoor’s Time 100 moment is more than recognition — it’s perfectly timed amplification.
