While other stars zoom to Mumbai, PCJ soaks up Hyderabadi flavours. Why did she choose to stay away, despite her proximity to the Ambanis who co-hosted the event?
Priyanka Chopra Jonas was conspicuous by her absence at the opening day of the WAVES summit. Even though Priyanka was in Hyderabad, — shooting for SS Rajamouli’s SSMB2 opposite Mahesh Babu — she opted out of attending the event. All the big-wigs of the Indian film fraternity — from SS Rajamouli and Allu Arjun to Rajinikanth, from Shahrukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, to Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar — were present on the occasion.
So why did she choose to stay away, despite her proximity to the Ambanis who co-hosted the event? Could it have something to do with her fractured relationship with Bollywood?
In a tell-all podcast with American actor Dax Shepard in 2023, she said she “had beef with people,” and that had made her decide to leave Mumbai. Soon after that, she said she refused to work with people she didn’t like anymore.
Though a regular visitor to Mumbai, Priyanka keeps her distance from “certain people” in the film fraternity.
“She has carved a niche for herself and practically reinvented herself. Though she was once at the mercy of the so-called big shots, she doesn’t need them anymore,” says a publicist.
