Prakash Jha Plans To Take ‘Raajneeti’ and ‘Aashram’ Forward

Filmmaker Prakash Jha is bringing Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif back together in a sequel to his 2010 hit Raajneeti.

“Like the first Raajneeti, the second part will also be based on the Mahabharata. There is so much more to tell than what we have seen so far,” he says.

In the original film, Katrina, till then known only for glamour roles, played a character resembling Sonia Gandhi and was fully committed to getting it right. The actress has been on a long maternity leave and Raajneeti 2 will mark her comeback.

Ranbir played an US-educated scion of a political dynasty who reluctantly returned home to shoulder family duties. Said Prakash,

The ensemble cast is expected to feature in Raajneeti 2 as well.

Jha is also scripting the fourth season of his popular serial Aashram starring Bobby Deol as a sleazy godman.

“It’s called Ek Badnaam Aashram. It is in the development stage. Baba—Bobby Deol—is in jail. There is a power struggle at the Aashram and eventually a purge happens,” he shared, adding, “there’s no timeline yet for streaming.” Commenting on Bobby’s stardom after Animal, the filmmaker said, “It’s great that Bobby has found his place. I’d like to think that Aashram also had a hand in his escalated equity.”
