Filmmaker Om Raut says he couldn’t have found a better actor than Dhanush to play Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in his upcoming biopic Kalam: The Missile Man of India.
“There could be nobody better than him. Dhanush is a phenomenal actor. I’m glad that he is kind of accepted to do the part. He is somebody that I really look up to and I’m looking forward to working with him on this film,” the Adipurush director said.
The film, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Abhishek Agarwal, and Anil Sunkara, will trace Kalam’s journey from scientist to President of India. Its first look was unveiled at the Cannes Film Market in May this year.
Raut, who debuted with the Marathi biopic Lokmanya: Ek Yugpurush (2015), admitted that biopics are a challenging genre. “Choosing which episodes of a personality’s life to include or omit is tough. But the effort is to tell the story in an inspiring way,” he explained.
Calling Kalam a lifelong inspiration, the director said the film aims to celebrate his vision for India and his influence on young people. “His books have changed my life. If I can narrate his story in a way that inspires today's youth, it would be my biggest reward.”
