Prime Minister Narendra Modi added a Bollywood touch to his address to the Indian diaspora in Jakarta by referencing Karan Johar’s blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai while speaking about the growing partnership between India and Indonesia.
Noting the film’s popularity in Indonesia, the he remarked that when the two nations work together, it goes far beyond “Kuch Kuch” (something) and becomes “Bahut Kuch” (a lot), drawing applause from the audience and a smile from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The mention left Karan Johar delighted. Reacting, the filmmaker said, “I am deeply honoured. For so long, we in the entertainment industry were not taken seriously at all. It was my first directorial, most cherished love.”
