Lost Hyderabad Comes Alive In Musa Khan’s Sketches

From gulaabdaani greetings to antique-lined halls, The Lost Legends of Hyderabad brings forgotten landmarks and Deccani culture back into public memory

Artist Musa Khan’s exhibition, The Lost Legends of Hyderabad, was a fulfillment of his childhood dream to “grow up one day and have my own art exhibition”. The theme for the exhibition is to showcase the beautiful past of Hyderabad through sketches, lost or vanished in history which are now only in means of words that too in highly protected manuscripts and books.

A self-taught artist with a deep-rooted passion for history, through his evocative sketches of old structures from the city and timeless antiques, he seeks to revive an interest in the past.

Over the years he developed a strong affinity towards Deccani culture and developed his passion by visiting various places, palaces, structures, galleries and meeting old families in the city. His works are famous for sharing lesser known stories about the city and also for giving a peek into the rich and layered past of the Deccan.

The exhibition was held at Safdaria Girls High School, one of Hyderabad’s oldest educational institutions. Adding to its nostalgic charm were glimpses of old Hyderabadi traditions — a gulaabdaani sprinkling rose water at the entrance, a traditional pandaan welcoming visitors, and a curated display of antiques spread across the venue.
