Legacy Meets Leadership
Niharika, a third-generation member of Secunderabad Club, reflects on the role it has played in shaping her life

Niharika Keerthi, a proud third-generation member of Secunderabad Club, received the highest votes of any candidate for the managing committee in the club’s history. She spent the majority of her youth there. “From my earliest memories until now, the club has been a constant — a place of joy, connection, and belonging. My family has a long history with the club. My father, Keerthi Narasimhachar, also served as president. My spouse and his family have been members for three generations, demonstrating our family’s profound and enduring bond,” says Niharika, member of managing committee at Secunderabad Club.
Being elected as the club’s second female managing committee member is both an honour and a responsibility, she says. “While this is a proud moment, I am also conscious that it will present its set of obstacles. It might be difficult to navigate legacy mindsets and subtle gender dynamics in a typically male-dominated field. The first issue was convincing the members that I would be a suitable match for the managing committee. However, I am pleased that they trusted and elected me. I consider my role as an opportunity to lead with a fresh perspective and contribute to the club’s more inclusive and forward-thinking future.”
“This allows us to express our thoughts and present a new perspective. I believe we can make a positive change in the club’s culture.”
