Jr NTR Expected To Outshine Rajinikanth in Telugu States...

Reigning Telugu superstar Jr NTR seems to have the upper hand over Tamil legend Rajinikanth in the coming ‘clash of the Titans’ on August 14, at least in the Telugu states. The former’s pan-India action spectacle War 2 is expected to outperform Rajinikanth’s mass entertainer Coolie, especially in terms of screen count and opening collections.

“Jr NTR enjoys a massive fan base in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, even in remote areas,” says a leading exhibitor. “His film is set to release in over 600 to 700 screens in the Telugu states, ensuring record-breaking openings.”
In contrast, Coolie is expected to open in around 400 screens in the region. While Rajinikanth commands great respect and admiration among Telugu audiences, his presence may not match the local dominance of Jr NTR. “Of course, Rajinikanth remains a popular icon here, and Coolie, featuring a star-studded cast including Aamir Khan and Nagarjuna, is one of the most awaited films of the year. But it might have to wait a few days to ramp up its theatre count,” the exhibitor added.
From a business standpoint, the stakes are high. The Telugu dubbing rights for War 2 have reportedly been sold for Rs 98 crore, while Coolie fetched around Rs 50 crore. Together, nearly Rs 150 crore is riding on the two big-budget films, making it a high-risk, high-rewards game for producers and distributors alike. “Exhibitors will explore all options to recover costs, but on Day 1, preference will likely go to the Nandamuri scion,” the exhibitor says. “With August packed with holidays, both films are expected to draw crowds — the audience will decide the winner.”

Coolie gets rare ‘A’ rating

ANUPAMA SUBRAMANIAN

For the first time in 36 years, a film starring Superstar Rajinikanth has been awarded an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, set to release on August 14, will be the 21st film in the actor's 50-year career to be restricted to an adult audience.

The official announcement by the makers, Sun Pictures, came as a surprise, and is now trending across social media platforms.
