‘I Won’t Let Myself Be Typecast’

Vikrant Massey on why he won’t do repetitive roles

Vikrant Massey was flooded with acting opportunities after his solo-hero triumph in 12th Fail. But the actor turned down all of them, as they were similar ‘underdog hero’ assignments. That is, up until the Sector 36 series.

In an exclusive chat with DC, Vikrant says, “I strongly believe in my instincts. When I read a script and it evokes the emotions it is trying to evoke, I can gauge whether it will do the same for the audience I want to make it for.”

Vikrant reveals he chose to play a serial killer in Sector 36. “It just felt right when I read the script. It was a film that went against the tide. People were trying to typecast me after the success of 12th Fail. Even earlier, they were trying to do that. After films like Haseen Dillruba and Death in the Gunj, I was often approached for sensitive, guy-next-door roles—characters who weren’t conventional heroes. I wanted to break that cycle.”
