I Will Try To Be a Balancing Bridge

Supriya Yarlagadda speaks on getting a key role in Censor Board

The Government of India announced the complete overhaul of the 18-member board on 16 September, with the changes coming into effect immediately. As the Executive Director of Annapurna Studios, Supriya Yarlagadda’s inclusion brings crucial representation for Telugu cinema to the film certification body. The new board is set to function under Chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati for a tenure of three years or until further orders.

Speaking exclusively on her appointment as the voice of Telugu cinema in the censor board, Supriya Yarlagadda says, “To represent Cinema in an official capacity allows for our perspective to be tabled at the right forums. To contribute to policy matters and be a voice from the Industry is a responsibility.”

On her role in representing Telugu cinema on the national forum Supriya says, “I will try to be a balancing bridge. Every region has its own nuances and differences in culture, to be a respresentative of Telugu Cinema in this capacity is an honour. The female perspective at any and every table is necessary. To let art have its own voice while certification be the guard rail for messaging on respect for portraying women in Cinema is very important.”
