‘I-Pill Has no Adverse Effect on Foetus’

Dr Nayaran Reddy column

I am a 26-year-old woman who had unprotected sex 20-25 days back. I took I-Pill last week just 2-3 days before my periods. After a week, I went for pregnancy test and the report was positive. Will I-Pill have any side effect on my baby? Also, is it safe to continue with pregnancy?

The emergency contraceptive pill should be taken within 72 hours of an unprotected sexual intercourse. The earlier the better. Otherwise its effectiveness gets reduced. Since your pregnancy is within the 12-week period, you may undergo Medical Termination of Pregnancy through suction method. Most hospitals have this facility. In general, the contraceptive pill has practically no adverse effects on the foetus.

I am experiencing low erection even after self-stimulation. The stiffness too has come down and I ejaculate fast. In my school days, my penis used to get erected at the slight touch of any woman or even by a thought. How could such big change happen in 10 years? I have consulted urologists who said no organ is defective.
When you were younger, sex was a novelty and hence your body used to respond instantly to the thought of sex or the sight of a woman. Though sex is interesting, the novelty factor has disappeared over the years. Hence you need physical stimulation to get an erection. Thought and sight have become routine and hence are unexciting. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and every one goes through this in life. Nothing to get worried about. You seem to have premature ejaculation. This can be managed either through sex therapy or through pharmacotherapy (treatment with medicines). Consult a sexologist in person.
