Kunal Kemmu, who plays a devoted single father in the series Single Papa, opens up about breaking gender stereotypes in parenting, He also opens up about his journey as a writer-director and how personal experiences shape his storytelling.

What made you choose the series Single Papa?

I really liked the script and the way the relationships were written. My bond with my daughter helped me connect deeply with the emotions of the character.

What was it like working with such a talented ensemble?

The cast is superb. It was a joy and a breeze working with everyone. Each actor fits their role perfectly.

How strongly do you feel about masculine parenting?

I don’t think parenting is a gender-defined role. It’s a mix of both masculine and feminine energies, and both can exist within one individual.

You recently turned director with Madgaon Express. Is that a vocation you enjoy?

I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to direct something I had written. I’m grateful it received so much love and worked with audiences. I’ve enjoyed being a writer-director and will be doing it again soon — more on that very soon.

Would you be okay with your daughter becoming an actor someday?

I would like my daughter to have varied interests and experiences. When she is an adult, if she chooses to become an actor, I will fully support her decision.
