Hrithik Roshan has officially joined the exclusive club of Bollywood’s top-tier actors, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, by entering into a backend profit-sharing arrangement for his upcoming film War 2. The actor, who leads the franchise, is now also a partner in its financial success, alongside producers Yash Raj Films.
According to industry sources, Hrithik has been paid a hefty upfront fee for War 2. But that’s just the beginning. Hrithik’s long-standing collaboration with producer Aditya Chopra, dating back to the blockbuster success of War (2019), has now evolved into a high-stakes partnership. The actor has secured a share in the film’s profits.
“Profit sharing refers to an arrangement where an actor receives a percentage of the profits a film earns, rather than (or in addition to) charging a fixed upfront fee. This model has become increasingly common among A-list actors,” says a trade analyst familiar with such negotiations.
This concept has been popularized over the past decade by actors like Aamir Khan, who famously opted for a share of the profits in films like Dangal, rather than taking home a traditional fee. Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan often structure their deals to include a cut of the earnings, especially when they are involved as co-producers through their respective banners, Red Chillies Entertainment and Salman Khan Films. Akshay Kumar, too has adopted hybrid financial models, choosing a comparatively lower base fee in exchange for a percentage of profits, depending on the project.
What’s the advantage?
“Profit-sharing encourages actors to promote the film more actively and reduces financial risk for producers by lowering upfront costs,” explains a trade analyst.

In Hrithik’s case, once War 2 completes its theatrical run, the profits will be split between him and Aditya Chopra. With sky-high box office expectations riding on the film, the actor is likely to earn a substantial sum over and above his base fee.
The film also features a high-powered ensemble cast. Telugu superstar Jr NTR, making his Bollywood debut with War 2, has reportedly been paid a huge amount, making it the highest fee ever for an actor debuting in a Hindi film.
