He Bet His Home. Sachin Bet Rs 3.6 Cr
After financial failure, Charugundla Bhavani Suresh put Rs 30 lakh into solar, betting on a second shot at business

For Charugundla Bhavani Suresh, starting over came at a steep personal cost. After his financial-products business collapsed during the recession, he sold his home and put Rs 30 lakh into a new venture in solar. Later, Sachin Tendulkar invested Rs 3.6 crore in TRUZON Solar.
The story is less about celebrity investment than what happened before it. “I did not sell my house because TRUZON Solar was shutting down,” Suresh says. “I sold my house after my financial-products business was hit by the recession and closed. I had to decide whether to become conservative or believe in myself again. I chose to start again.”
He says the move was driven by an opportunity he saw in solar, rather than an attempt to rescue a struggling company. “Selling the house wasn’t about saving a dying business; it was about having the courage to rebuild after one business had failed,” he says.
The Rs 30 lakh he put in came with an obvious personal cost. “It represented family security and my chance to start again. I chose the second option.”
Suresh says the failure of his first business did not change his view of himself as an entrepreneur. “One business may have failed, but I have not failed as an entrepreneur,” he says. “I still had my experience, relationships, knowledge, confidence and ability to work. I believed I could rebuild.”
“I knew a house could be earned again. Money could be earned again,” he says. “But losing my courage to try again would cost more.”
Then came Sachin
Tendulkar’s ?3.6-crore investment marked another stage in the company’s journey. “Sachin’s investment was an important milestone,” Suresh says. “It brought capital at an important stage, but also confidence and credibility.”
For Suresh, the significance lay in how dramatically the circumstances had changed. “We had travelled from selling my house and investing Rs 30 lakh to a stage where Sachin Tendulkar saw value in what we were building,” he says.
